Lynx Rebound with 10-3 Win Against Fontbonne

March 3, 2012

The Lynx took the first of two games to be played today at Rhodes College, 10-3, over the Griffins of Fontbonne University.   It was Rhodes who struck first with runs in the 2nd inning on an excellent piece of base running by junior third baseman, Katie Stich.  Stich reached first based and advanced to second on a ball in the dirt.  Stich was than able to advance to third on a tag-up and score two pitches later on a wild pitch.  The Lynx added another run in the third and 5 runs in the 4th inning to run the score to 7-0.  However, in the bottom of the 4th, Fontbonne answered with 3 runs on 2 homeruns narrowing the score to 7-3.

In the 5th inning, senior hurler Chelsea Peters was called upon to relieve freshman Forrest Skelton and to silence the Griffins bats.  Peters worked three innings of scoreless softball, helping her cause in the 6th inning with a double down the left field line, later scoring on a base hit.

The win improves the Lynx to 2-4-1 on the season.  The loss drops Fontbonne, the pre-season favorite to win the SLIAC, to 1-2.
