The Lynx took the first of two games to be played today at Rhodes College, 10-3, over the Griffins of Fontbonne University. It was Rhodes who struck first with runs in the 2
nd inning on an excellent piece of base running by junior third baseman,
Katie Stich. Stich reached first based and advanced to second on a ball in the dirt. Stich was than able to advance to third on a tag-up and score two pitches later on a wild pitch. The Lynx added another run in the third and 5 runs in the 4
th inning to run the score to 7-0. However, in the bottom of the 4
th, Fontbonne answered with 3 runs on 2 homeruns narrowing the score to 7-3.
In the 5
th inning, senior hurler
Chelsea Peters was called upon to relieve freshman
Forrest Skelton and to silence the Griffins bats. Peters worked three innings of scoreless softball, helping her cause in the 6
th inning with a double down the left field line, later scoring on a base hit.
The win improves the Lynx to 2-4-1 on the season. The loss drops Fontbonne, the pre-season favorite to win the SLIAC, to 1-2.
