Memphis, TN- The Lynx earned their 5th SAA victory today in exciting fashion after coming back from a 2-0 defecit to earn the win. Centre's Courtney Kuiper scored just 9 minutes into play on the Colonels first shot of the game. Her teammate Erin Bacon followed with a second goal 7 minutes later to give Centre a 2-0 cushion. The Lynx dominated much of the first half but struggled to earn corners or shots on goal.
The Lynx stayed composed and battled back in the second half but continued to have trouble earning corners and finding the back of the cage. With 14 minutes left to play
Evy Royther scored the Lynx first goal on an assist from
Sarah Ferguson. Just 3 minutes later
Alex Friedman tied the game on a pass from
Julie Hertzman. Rhodes earned several penalty corners in the last 10 minutes but the Lynx were unable to score a goal sending the game in overtime.
Overtime came and went quickly with a little back and forth action before
Kat Simpson ended the game just two minutes into the overtime on a pass from
Katie Faucher. The game winning run started with a strong step from the backfield by Rin Palmer, who played an outstanding game. Sam Anscher and
Shauni Cowan also had strong efforts on the defensive end in the win.
Rhodes out shot Centre 14-9 and held a 7-5 advantage in penalty corner opportunities.
Jordan Robinson had 4 saves in goal for the Lynx while Centre keeper Kathryn Higgins secured 6 saves on the day for the Colonels. The Lynx (6-3, 5-0 SAA) will host Transylvania tomorrow at Noon.
