NAIA Lyon drop Lynx in thriller 4-3

10/29/2012 9:14:00 AM

NAIA Lyon College defeated the Lynx 4-3 in a thrilling contest Sunday in Batesville AR. Despite a double overtime game on Saturday and a couple of regular starters missing  ( Will Porter sitting for yellow card accumulation and Davy Weidow to rest a nagging knee injury ) the Lynx had a strong performance against a solid Lyon team.  Junior Jon Fisher scored from a corner kick from Freshman Josh Bennett to put the team up 1-0 seven minutes into the match. Three minutes later Lyon was awarded a penalty when freshman GK Riley Sheen pushed a Scot on a corner kick and Lyon converted to equalize at  1-1 . The Scots kept the pressure on added another in the 24th minute to go up 2-1.  Moments later Rhodes was awarded a free kick just outside the box and sophomore Eric Ly scored his 4th goal on the year to put the Lynx level at 2-2. Again the Scots answered and snuck one in just before the half to go up 3-2.  But the Lynx weren't done . Seventeen minutes into the 2nd half the Rhodes pressure paid off as they were awarded a penalty kick and Eric Ly scored his 5th on the year and 2nd on the day to tie the game at 3-3. The Lynx held on to absorb much attacking pressure but Lyon was able to get the game winner in the 83rd minute and the game ended 4-3. Lyon outshot Rhodes 26-10 but only 10-8 on goal. The Lynx travel to Birmingham Alabama Friday for a first round SAA Tournament match against Centre College at Noon.
