Rhodes College Football Beats Depauw University 24-14

Rhodes ends 11 year losing streak versus Depauw University

Rhodes had a dominating performance on defense, offense and in the kicking game to end an 11 year losing streak to DePauw with a 24-14 win.  The win marked the first head coaching victory of new Rhodes Head Football Coach Dan Gritti.  Rhodes scored first on an 80 yard touchdown pass from Senior QB Brett Stoots (Brownsville, TN) to Sophomore RB Dane Wilson(Bartlett, TN). Despite leading only 7-0 at the half, Rhodes dominated every aspect of play, including registering their first blocked punt of the year by Senior Co-captain Jake Jackson

In the second half, Rhodes continued their dominance on a 23 yard field goal by Sophomore Placekicker Lucas Stockhausen (Cologne, Germany) and another 9 yard pass touchdown from Stoots to Wilson.  Entering the 4th quarter up 17-0, Rhodes continued to move the ball until the final score by Wilson put Rhodes up 24-7.  DePauw added a final touchdown long after the game was settled with 54 seconds left.

The Lynx were led on offense by Stoots, who had 29 completions for 342 yards and 2 touchdowns. The defense was led by Tom Zigtema (Cumming, GA) with 11 tackles.  Next week Rhodes hosts LaGrange at 1pm.
