Lynx Finish 2011 Regular Season With Tie

10/30/2011 3:05:00 PM

The final regular season game for the Lynx was a perfect setting for Halloween weekend.  The Lynx finished the 2011 season with a tie against Millsaps College that was filled with many tricks and treats.
In a lack luster 1st half the Lynx found themselves ahead at halftime after junior Beth Ann McCloskey converted a penalty kick.  Senior Ashley Ladd was taken down in the Major box by goalkeeper Molly Beth Jordan, resulting in the penalty kick.
Millsaps came out firing early in the 2nd half when Margaret Eggers scored off of a free kick from 25 yards away from goal.  Eggers scored her 2nd of the game in the 68th minute when she finished a corner served in by Kaleigh Redhead.  The Lynx answered almost immediately when senior Melissa Coquelin scored 30 seconds later off of a rebound in the Major box.  Millsaps took the lead again 6 minutes later when a free kick was sent into Rhodes' penalty box.  The ball took a deflection of off a Lynx defender and found the back of the net.  In the 83rd minute freshmen Kelsey Keown fired a shot from top of the box to tie the game at 3.  Almost exactly 3 minutes later the Lynx took the lead when senior Laura Flink scored with just under 5 minutes to play.  The trick of the night happened when Millsaps was awarded a penalty kick with 15 seconds left on the clock.  Kaleigh Redhead converted the spot kick for the Majors.
Both teams battled through the overtime periods with no goals.  The Lynx outshot the Majors 9-2 in the overtime periods.  For the games the Lynx carried the advantage in shots 22-12, corners 7-4, and fouls 19-8.  Senior Stephanie Sermonet made 4 saves for the Lynx.
With the tie the Lynx secured the #4 seed in the SCAC tournament and will face Hendrix College at noon on Friday.
