An exciting game against Centre College (10-5) ended well for the Rhodes field hockey squad with a 3-2 victory on Friday afternoon in Memphis.  The win was fitting in honor of the 2011 Senior Day where the team recognized the contributions of seniors Sara Sanders, Libby Jones, Taylor Mills, Sarah Kennedy, and Chelsea McLeod

Three different Lynx players combined for the three goal victory.  Jumping on the board fourteen minutes into the first half, Sarah Ferguson converted on a penalty corner opportunity on an assist from Sam Anscher.  Leading 1-0 at the half, Rhodes continued to pressure offensively into the second period.  Regan McLaughlin was credited for the Lynx second goal of the game on a scuffle in front of the Colonels' goalkeeper, Patty Cowley, who notched 14 saves.  Centre answered back less than a minute later, closing the margin 2-1.  The match was tied 2-2 after Centre found the back of the cage on a penalty corner.  That was all the push Rhodes needed to dig deep and step up on both ends of the field.  With just over a minute left in regulation, junior forward Katie Facuher nailed home the game winner on a lift just past the goalies reach for her tenth goal of the season.

Senior midfielders Sarah Kennedy and Libby Jones came up big for Rhodes controlling tempo and generating many offensive plays and scoring opportunities with the help of center defender Sam Anscher.  The Lynx defensive unit found a way to deny seven Colonel penalty corners, while goalkeeper Jordan Robinson recorded seven saves on the day.

The Rhodes field hockey program is proud to honor the accomplishments of their senior class and their commitment to the team over the past four years.  The Lynx (8-6, 4-1 SCAC) will match up against Sewanee University (5-7) on Sunday at noon in the last game of the regular season.
