A hard fought 70 minutes ended well for the Lady Lynx on Sunday afternoon, earning a 4-1 victory over the Tigers in SCAC field hockey action.  Opening the scoring for the game was Taylor Mills, converting a pass from fellow senior Libby Jones.  Sarah Ferguson and Sarah Kennedy combined for another Rhodes goal with 10  minutes remaining in the first half, putting Rhodes ahead 2-0.  On a breakaway toward goal, Sewanee was able to execute a give-and-go sequence narrowing the Lynx lead to one.  An offensive push in the last two minutes of the half resulted in the third Rhodes goal, an unassisted tally by freshman Becca Martin.

The second half was played evenly throughout the midfield, with several strong offensive pushes from both teams.  Sophomore goalkeeper Kelly Whelan had an outstanding performance in cage, collecting 14 saves on the day.  Freshman defender Corrinne Palmer notched two goal-line defensive saves, denying Sewanee any chance of adding another goal.  Rhodes finally connected with the back of the cage as a result of a penalty corner opportunity.  Scoring her first collegiate goal, Mackenzie Holland finished a cross from Sara Sanders for a final score of 4-1.

With the win, the Lynx advance to 2-1 in SCAC play, and 5-3 on the season.  Rhodes will play regional rival, DePauw University, next Saturday at Sacred Heart Academy in Louisville, KY.  Game time is slated for 2:00 pm.
