Rhodes snapped a 4 game losing streak tonight topping Southwestern, 88-75 in Mallory Gymnasium. The Lynx registered all 5 starters in double figures and were once again led by junior
Sharwil Bell who tallied an impressive 31 points. Rhodes shot a season high 50.9% from the floor and knocked down 10-19 from behind the arc. Sophomore
Jaime Maxey had a strong showing from deep, connecting on 4-6 3's and finished the night with 14 points and 9 rebounds. Also in double figures for the Lynx were Sophomore
Sarah Womack with 16, Freshman
Amy Handelman with 10 and Senior
Lakeya McGill with 14. McGill also became the 12th player in Rhodes history to reach the 1000 point mark.
Southwestern's aggressive ball pressure helped them to jump out to a quick start, but Rhodes was able to respond and cut the lead to 45-42 going into the break. Both teams continued to battle in the 2nd half, but the speed of the Lynx back court was too much for the Pirates. Rhodes was able to win the game going away. Southwestern had 4 players in double figures, led by Anna Fareed with 18 points on 6-11 shooting, 4-7 from 3. Also in double digits, Shae Seagraves with 16, Reilly Robertson with 12 and Katelyn Bartell with 11. The win pushes Rhodes to 6-13 and 3-8 in SCAC play while Southwestern falls to 13-7 and 5-6 in league play.
The Lynx will hit the road this weekend, traveling to Oglethorpe and Sewanne. They will return to Mallory Gymnasium on February 12 to face Birmingham Southern.
