Second half turnovers doom Rhodes

1/28/2011 9:59:17 PM

Junior Sharwil Bell recorded her 8th double-double of the year but it wasn't enough to overcome 19 Rhodes turnovers, 13 of those in the 2nd half. Bell had 25 points, 11 rebounds and leads the SCAC in double-doubles for the season. Freshman Amy Handelman posted her 3rd career double-double with 16 points on 6-8 shooting and 11 boards. Sophomore Sarah Womack was also in double figures with 13 points.

Rhodes came out of the blocks fast jumping out to a 20-11 lead in the first 8 minutes. Trinity was able to answer with a run of their own, tying the game at 22 all with just over 7 minutes to play before the break. The rest of the first half went back and forth with the teams heading into the locker rooms at 37-37. Trinity came out on fire in the 2nd half, taking an 8 point lead in the first 5 minutes. After shooting a paltry 3-14 from beyond the arc in the 1st, the Tigers turned it around in the 2nd going 4-8 from downtown. Rhodes meanwhile couldn't find a rhythm from 3 shooting a miserable 2-14 for the game. Trinity registered 5 players in double figures led by Abby Dietert with 21 and Libby Kruse who had the Tigers only double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. The win pushes Trinity to 8-10 and 5-5 in league play.

The Lynx (5-13, 2-8) look to turn things around tomorrow night at 6pm against Southwestern in Mallory Gymnasium.
