Turnovers Eliminate Lynx Hopes

Rhodes fought and scrapped against the Trinity University Tigers on Friday January 28th, but to no avail.  Turnovers will haunt the Lynx in their sleep tonight as 23 turnovers led to over twenty fastbreak points for the visiting Tigers.  It was these errors that limited Rhodes shot attempts and cost them chances at putting points on the board.  Trinity defeated the Lynx 62 - 51.

For forty minutes, the Lynx played outstanding defense in the half court.  It was costly turnovers that put the men behind.  In the first half, Rhodes turned the ball over 11 times, which led 18 of Trinity's 33 first half points.  The transition offense that resulted from Lynx turnovers is what could not be overcome.

Even with these easy baskets in transition, the Lynx were able to hold the Tigers to under 40% shooting for the game (38.9) and out-rebounded them by 3.  Sadly, 23 Lynx turnovers were on 21 Tigers steals, this outcome resulting in Rhodes getting 15 less shot attempts.

"All night we were right there within 5, but our unforced turnovers cost us a possible victory tonight," said Head Coach Mike DeGeorge.  "I am proud of the effort our guys gave out there; no one can question the passion and heart that they left on the floor tonight."

The Lynx will look to keep up this effort and intensity Saturday January 29th as they host Southwestern University at 8pm.  Be sure to stop by early as alumni basketball players will be competing in a game at 2:30pm in Mallory Gymnasium.
