Lynx Too Much For Tigers

Sharwil Bell posts her 6th double-double of the season

The Rhodes women's basketball team hung on to get their second win in a row tonight at Mallory Gymnasium, topping the Tigers of Colorado College, 75-73. Senior Lakeya McGill led all scorers, pacing the Lynx with 27 points on 8-15 shooting from the floor. Junior Sharwil Bell registered her 6th double-double of the year with 21 points and 14 rebounds. Sophomore Sarah Womack also hung double figures on the board scoring 11. Both teams started slow scoring a combined 27 points in the first 9 minutes, but the Lynx finished the first half strong taking an 8 point margin into the locker room at halftime, 38-30.

Rhodes opened the 2nd half on a 21-11 run over the first 8 minutes, extending the lead to 59-41. Colorado College would not go down without a fight, cutting the lead to 2 with 56 seconds to go. McGill along with freshman Amy Handelman, iced the victory for the Lynx hitting big free throws down the stretch. Colorado College was led by Becky Luetjen who dropped 22 points for the Tigers. Colorado College slips to 6-9 overall and 3-3 in SCAC play.

The Lynx (5-9, 2-4) have now won 2 in a row and look to push that to a 3 game win streak on Sunday against the 'Roos of Austin College at noon in Mallory Gymnasium.
