1/11/2011 8:42:29 PM

The Rhodes women's basketball team held on to get the win tonight over the University of Dallas, 61-57, in Mallory Gymnasium. Junior Sharwil Bell led all scorers with 27 points, shooting 11-22 from the floor. Bell also registered her fifth double-double of the year, snagging 11 rebounds. Freshman Amy Handelman and senior Lakeya McGill chipped in with 10 points each.

The Lynx set the tone early, jumping out to an early lead before Dallas cut it to 12-10 at the 13:21 mark of the first half. Rhodes responded by extending the lead to 8 at the break, 30-22. Rhodes led the entire second half, pushing the lead to as many as 12 points before Dallas went on a run. The Crusaders cut the deficit to 1 several times in the last 5 minutes, but each time the Lynx were able to respond. Handelman made her first trip to the charity stripe with less than 2 seconds remaining, and sank 2 clutch free throws to seal the game.

Rhodes improves to 4-9, while Dallas falls to 8-7. The loss snapped a 4 game Dallas win streak. The Lynx look to defend their home court and start a win streak of their own on Friday night against Colorado College at 6pm.
