Men's Soccer Defeats Webster

Men's Soccer Wins 2-0

The Rhodes College Men's Soccer team won the 2010 Greg Volgas Memorial Tournament with a solid 2-0 win over visiting Webster University.  Junior midfielder, Christian Kurth, netted his first goal of the year off an assist from freshman midfielder, Hunter Yocum, in the 29th minute.  The Lynx gained several more opportunies, but Webster's Alex Copp stood strong in goal.  The score remained 1-0 going into halftime.

Rhodes increased the pace in the second half, dominating possession and creating multiple chances in the attack.  Junior, Michael Rubin, picked off a pass in the midfield and slipped the ball through the Gorlock defense, putting senior, Nick Bailey, in on a breakaway, who calmly finished the ball to give Rhodes the 2-0 advantage.  A few minutes later, sophomore midfielder, Petar Radujkovich, beat his defender in the box and was taken down from behind, however no call was made.  The game would end 2-0.  The Lynx defense and goalkeeper, Justin Stradley, played a solid game, gaining their 2nd shutout in a row.

Rhodes improves to 2-0-1 on the year, and travel to Fontbonne University on Friday, September 10th.  Kick-off is scheduled for 7pm.
