The Lynx field hockey team prevailed 3-2 over Randolph Macon College today in Newport News, VA. The Lynx scored first on a tip by senior
Libby Feaster which was assisted by
Lindsey Gurkovich. Rhodes then followed with a second goal on a penalty stroke by senior captain
Charlie Wagner. Randolph Macon found the back of the cage on their first shot of the day to pull within one goal before halftime. The Lynx came out strong after the break, controlling the first part of the second half and putting in a third goal by
Libby Jones on a scramble around the goal mouth. Randolph Macon tallied a second half goal and continued to test the Lynx defense but Rhodes held on strong for the win.
Marie Mason played a stellar game at center defender while
Sarah Kennedy and
Lindsey Gurkovich held down the middle. First year players
Regan McLaughlin and Sam Anscher were key on defense as was junior sweeper
Sara Sanders. The Lynx out shot RMC 14-5 and enjoyed a 6-5 advantage in penalty corner opportunities. Rhodes faces preseason #12 Christopher Newport tomorrow at noon.
