Rhodes Defeats Southwestern 2-0

9/24/2010 7:50:05 PM

The Rhodes College Women's Soccer team opened up conference play with a 2-0 win over visiting Southwestern University.  Rhodes saw several chances in the opening half, hitting the cross bar 3 times.  Southwestern goalkeeper, Sarah Nonaka, came up with a couple very big saves to keep the game level at 0-0 going into the half.

Rhodes was determined to get on the board in the second half.  In the 60th minute, sophomore forward, Betsy Peterson, flicked the ball onto junior forward, Ashley Ladd, who placed the ball in the back of the net from the top of the 18.  As the game winded down, sophomore Paula Vasichko, slipped the ball to junior, Zoe Clark, who hit a tremendous far-post shot from 30 yards out, giving Rhodes the 2-0 lead.  Rhodes would hold on for the result.

Rhodes improves to 3-4 on the year, and 1-0 in SCAC play.  They will host Trinity University on Sunday at noon.
