The Rhodes Volleyball team traveled to Southwestern University to began SCAC play this weekend. The team defeated Trinity University in their opening match in a five set thriller by the scores of 15-15, 25-23, 18-25, 25-21, 15-9. It was the first time that Rhodes had defeated Trinity since 1991.
Meagan Mansfield led the team with 15 kills while Phylicia Douglas and Lexie Krall combined for 18 kills on the Right Side for the Lynx. Setters Michelle Quina and Nicole McAlvany combined for 47 assists while Libero Kayla McCrury led the team with 28 digs. Freshmen Middle Blocker Stephanie Renner led the Lynx with 3 blocks.
Unfortunately the team was not able to carry the same momentum into their second match against Colorado College. After taking the first set 25-18, the Tigers came roaring back to defeat the Lynx in three straight sets by the scores 16-25, 12-25, 17-25.
Sophomore Outside Hitter Claire Warren led the Lynx with with 8 kills while Freshmen Middle Blocker led the team's defense with 2 blocks.
The Lynx return to SCAC action on Saturday when they face off against host Southwestern at 12pm and Birmingham Southern at 2pm.
