Cross-town Division II foe, Christian Brothers University, slipped past Rhodes Women's Soccer 1-0 on Wednesday night. Despite the hard-fought effort of the Rhodes Women's Soccer team, the CBU tally in the 22nd minute by Lauren Quinones would be the game winner.
Rhodes played extremely well during the match, out-possessing and out-tackling their cross-town rival. CBU would be first to capitalize on one of the few errors of the night, as midfielder Lauren Browning played a ball in behind the Rhodes defense, where Lauren Quinones, would collect the pass and find herself one on one with Rhodes goalkeeper
Stephanie Sermonet. Quinones was able to get around Sermonet and put the Bucs up 1-0. Just ten minutes later, Rhodes found themselves with a golden opportunity as they were awarded a free kick just outside the box. Freshman midfielder,
Heidi Press, struck a well-hit shot, only to be denied by the crossbar. CBU would go into the half up 1-0.
The second half was a back and forth battle. Sermonet came up with a couple big saves for Rhodes. On the other end of the field, Rhodes looked dangerous, but couldn't find the back of the net. CBU would hold on for the 1-0 victory.
Rhodes drops to 2-3 on the year, and will travel to Atlanta, GA on Sunday to play Emory University.
