DANVILLE, Ky. - - The lady Lynx outperformed the Big Red of Denison University 2-1 in an exciting contest Saturday afternoon. After a hard fought loss last Sunday against nationally ranked Christopher Newport, the Lynx proved to be too tough for DU. The win on the road improves the Lynx record to 2-1.
Rhodes came out strong dominating the Big Red in their offensive circle with nine shots on goal; however they couldn't find the back of the cage in the first half. Denison pulled away from the Lynx causing a two on one for senior goalkeeper
Sarah Dockery. Dockery was able to make an exceptional save on the play.
A few minutes later, Denison was able to cause a scuffle in Rhodes' defensive circle scoring soon after. The goal came from sophomore Catie Merrick. The Lynx were able to hold Denison to a 0-1 game with little time remaining in the first half.
Rhodes came back executing their shots much more efficiently in the second half with two goals scored. The first goal came from senior
Lindsey Gurkovich with an assist from forward
Libby Jones. Not soon after, junior
Chelsea McLeod was able to tip the ball into cage past Denison goalkeeper Brittany Benson.
The Lynx controlled what remained of the half with hard work from both the defense and offense. Junior
Sara Sanders played a stellar game along with
Charlie Wagner whom were able to make significant passes into Rhodes' offensive circle.
