Men's Soccer Draws with Birmingham-Southern

Late Goal Ties Men's Soccer 1-1

10/31/2010 6:36:58 PM

Men's Soccer celebrated Senior Day on the campus of Rhodes College.  Seniors Nick Bailey, Austin Pyhrr, Brett Simek, Eric Stradley, and Justin Stradley were honored before the game.

The first half of the competition was a back and forth physical game.  Both teams saw opportunities at goal, but no one could crack the opposing keeper.  Both teams went into half with the score knotted at 0-0.

The Lynx came out strong in the second half, finding the back of the net just 6 minutes into the half.  Senior, Nick Bailey, served a cross in off a set piece just outside the side of the 18 finding fellow senior, Eric Stradley, who buried home the header from 8 yards out.  The Lynx were able to settle the game down a bit after the goal, trying to play more possession.  With about 15 minutes remaining in the game, BSC turned the up the pressure, as well as the physicalness.  Their chance to equalize would finally come on a corner kick with 10 minutes remaining in regulation, as BSC midfielder, Sean Head, leveled the game at 1-1 off a header.  Both teams would see chances in the closing minutes, but the teams were headed for overtime.

Overtime was very exciting, as the back and forth game continued.  Both teams would find chances to end the game, but BSC keeper, Alex Levenson, and Rhodes keeper, Justin Stradley, came up with big saves.  The most exciting moment of overtime came with 45 seconds remaining in the game, as sophomore midfielder, Petar Radujkovich, beat his defender at the top of the box and fired a shot that barely missed the upper 90.  The SCAC match would end in a 1-1 draw.

Rhodes goes to 6-7-3 on the season and 3-5-1 in SCAC play.  The Lynx will travel to Austin College on Friday for their next SCAC match up.
