10/1/2010 10:12:45 PM

The Lynx field hockey squad prevailed over DePauw today after trailing for the majority of the game.  Margaret Ellis got the Tigers on the board just 20 minutes into play to hold the Lynx to a 1-0 game going into halftime. Rhodes came out strong after adjustments were made at the break but were unable to prevent a second DePauw goal by Katie Sowar just 7 minutes into the second half.  Rhodes gained momentum as the second half progressed and finally scored their first goal from the right side of the cage by sophomore Katie Faucher with just 11 minutes to play.  Faucher then assisted the Lynx game tying goal on a cross which Libby Feaster slammed into the back of the cage.  Rhodes had many opportunities to score a third goal in the final minutes of regulation but were unable to execute, sending the game into overtime.  Two scoreless overtime periods were well played by both teams. Goalkeeper, Sarah Dockery, thwarted off several DePauw chances alongside Charlie Wagner making an impressive goal line defensive save.  Dockery totaled 17 saves on the day.  Marie Mason and Regan McLaughlin both had outstanding efforts on defense today.  Liz Atwell managed to block two Rhodes' strokes but it wouldn't be enough as Charlie Wagner and Sarah Ferguson scored to give Rhodes the win.  Sarah Dockery blocked all three DePauw on target strokes including an impressive stick save.  The Tigers held a 28-19 advantage in shots and an 11-9 edge in penalty corners.  Rhodes (8-1, 3-0 SCAC) plays at Sewanee (3-5, 1-2 SCAC) Sunday at noon.
