The Rhodes Women's Soccer Team began the 2009 season by defeating the University of the Ozarks 3-0 in Memphis.
The Lynx looked like they would score early, when Sophomore Zoe Clark's shot was saved by Ozark goalie Lori Langman 3 minutes into the game. However, Rhodes was able to score in the 8th minute when Sophomore Ashley Ladd found the back of the net from an assist from Clark. Rhodes would never look back after the first goal.
In the 37th minute Sophomore Melissa Coquelin finished a rebound from Freshmen Mae Casey's shot. Junior Alice Hilgart rounded out the scoring for the Lynx in the 49th minute from an assist from Ladd.
Senior Becca Clarin and Sophomore Stephanie Sermonet split the shutout making one save. Langman made 11 saves for Ozarks.
The Lynx held the advantage in shots 30-1, and corner kicks 7-0.
In the earlier game of the Rhodes Classic, Cal Lutheran was able to hold onto a 1-0 lead against University of Texas-Dallas.
The Lynx return to action on Sunday at 2pm when they face visiting University of Texas-Dallas. Cal Lutheran will face University of Ozarks at 10am.
