The women's team enters 2009 after a successful 2008 season. The Lynx return six of the seven women who competed at the region meet where they placed fourth as a team last year. Returning from the 2008 team are national qualifiers Cybil Covic (Sr) and Taylor Stephens (So). Covic, who will serve as captain, returns to the team after studying in Kenya last semester, and looks to emulate her success from last year. Stephens begins her sophomore year as one of the top returners in Division III cross country. She had a great freshman campaign where she was an All-American in cross country and a provisional qualifier in the 10,000 meters.
A talented group of ladies return from last year's team and look help the Lynx improve on their finishes in the conference and region. Melissa Defabrizzio (Sr), Kelsey Dudziak (Jr), Sandy Henin (Jr), and Caroline Webster (So) were all part of the region team last year and will be asked to be a strong pack during the season. Transfer student Anna Johnson (Jr) was with the team during the track season, but hopes to make an impact this fall and move into the top seven.
The Lynx are happy to add five great freshmen to the team this year. Emma Fesperman (Towson, MD), Madeleine Harrigan (Chesterfield, MO), Whitney Langston (Austin, TX), Ashley Newman (Atlanta, GA), and Hillary Quirk (San Antonio, TX) look to make their presence felt throughout the season.
The women's team will begin their season at the Sewanee Invitational on September 5th. The Lynx will travel to three additional regular season meets and host the Rhodes Invitational on September 26th at Shelby Farms. The conference meet will be held in Atlanta, GA on October 31st, and the NCAA Region meet will be in Greensboro, NC on November 14th. We hope you will be able to join us during the year and cheer on the women's team!
