Rhodes Drops Close Decision at Trinity

The Men's Soccer team traveled to San Antonio November 6th, and even though Trinity University has been involved in several overtime and one-goal games, they easily remain the best in the SCAC. Somehow, the men managed to make it to halftime with a 0-0 draw. Much credit has to be given to the Lynx, though, as they defended well, making adjustment after adjustment to keep thirteen corner kicks out of the net. Freshman goalkeeper Zach Fernberger made several excellent saves to keep Rhodes in the game. After a few halftime adjustments, the men were on the attack, putting some pressure on the Tigers, but it was Trinity who scored first in the 53rd minute to take the initial lead. Fourteen minutes later, the Tigers got their second goal. Rhodes had arrived at a critical point in the game, down 2-0 and absorbing a lot of pressure from Trinity's relentless attack and their home crowd of about 850 people, but they did not give up but pushed on and continued to work hard, which is something that will potentially be the difference-maker in a number of games down the road. Five minutes later, freshman forward Petar Radujkovic scored his seventh goal of the season to put the Lynx only a goal down at 2-1, and suddenly there was a renewal of life. The offensive pressure picked up, and the Tigers were forced to defend for a respectable portion of the rest of the game, but they were able to hold on for the 2-1 victory. This is the first time since 2004 the Rhodes has played Trinity to a one-goal game, and the Lynx are looking forward to coming out on top next year.
