Lynx Blank Sewanee

Rhodes Field Hockey rose above their SCAC rival at Sewanee this Friday 1-0. After a slow opening ten minutes, during which the Lynx allowed the Tigers 5 penalty corners, the Lynx fought to gain back the ball in a battle in the midfield for the remainder of the first half.

Two minutes after the start of the second half, sophomore Chelsea McLeod put in the Lynx single goal on a rebound from a penalty corner shot from the top. Junior defender Rachel Webb, last week's SCAC Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week, shut down the Tiger's offensive attacks throughout the second half—along with sophomore Lucy Bell and senior captain Kristen Lee—and lessened Sewanee's shots on goal from 9 in the first half to 2 in the second.

The Lynx drew 7 penalty corners during the second half, rivaling Sewanee's 5 in the first half and 2 in the second. The midfield possessed the ball and drew several fouls for a majority of the remained of the game to secure the win. The Lynx outshot the Tigers 16-11, and senior captain and goaltender Megan Cullen scored her second shutout for the 2009 season; Cullen tallied 7 saves from a hard-hitting Sewanee offensive line.

Rhodes advances undefeated 3-0 thus far in SCAC, 6-1 overall, and hope to bring home another win against DePauw in Greencastle, Indiana, on Sunday at 11 ET.
