Rhodes Women Win Over ETBU in Double Overtime

9/7/2008 4:09:57 PM

The Rhodes Women's Soccer Team defeated the Tigers of East Texas Baptist University by a score of 1-0 in the last game of the ASC/SCAC Women's Soccer Classic in Memphis. Despite outshooting the Tigers 25-3 and earning 8 corner kicks the Lynx were unable to score until the 108th minute when senior forward Molly Buss scored the game's golden goal and kept the Lynx' undefeated season intact.

After playing 110 minutes for a 1-1 tie against the Cowgirls of Hardin-Simmons on Saturday, the Lynx once again needed extra time to finally down ETBU. Rhodes controlled the play which allowed every available healthy player on the roster to see the field but, the Lynx were unlucky not to be able to find the back of the net, mainly due to the strong play of the Tiger's goalkeeper Erin Mason.

In the final two minutes of the 2nd overtime period the Lynx finally broke the drought when freshman forward Julia Clapper played a ball across the penalty area for Molly Buss to slot into the ETBU net and give the Lynx their 3rd win of the season and keep Rhodes' undefeated start intact.

Despite facing only two shots on goal, freshman goalkeeper Stephanie Sermonet played her first complete game and earned the first shutout of her career.

Rhodes improves to 3-0-1 in 2008 and will play NCAA DII cross-town rival Christian Brothers University on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at 1:00 pm.
