Women's Soccer Earns Hard Fought SCAC Victory Over Sewanee

9/28/2007 7:06:47 PM

The Rhodes women's soccer team defeated SCAC rival Sewanee in a hard fought game in Memphis by a score of 1-0. Kara Purdy scored for the Lynx in the 79th minute to give the Lynx their 3rd straight SCAC victory in as many games.

In a very even first half, in which the Lynx out shot the Tigers 10-7 and tied in corners at 2 each, Rhodes was unlucky to have a goal disallowed on an untouched indirect free kick and the game remained scoreless going into halftime.

In the second half Rhodes dominated play out shooting Sewanee 9-2 and earning 7 corner kicks to the Tiger's 2. Once again, the Lynx had a goal disallowed when the referee's assistant judged the ball to be out of bounds before Rhodes finished the resulting cross. Finally, in the 79th minute junior midfielder Kara Purdy scored a scrappy goal by finishing off a ball that bounced around inside the Sewanee 6 yard box after a Lynx corner kick.

Sophomore goalkeeper Becca Clarin made several key saves and earned her 3rd official shutout of the season and the Lynx' 5th in the 2007 campaign.

Rhodes improves to 6-3 in 2007 (3-0 SCAC) and will face the Stormy Petrels of Oglethorpe University on Sunday, September 30, 2007 at 12:00 pm.
