Lynx Win 2nd SCAC Women's Soccer Match Over Centre, 2-1 in OT

The Rhodes women's soccer team earned its 2nd SCAC victory in as many matches with a 2-1 overtime result over Centre at home on Sunday, September 23, 2007.  Jessie Cassidy and Alice Hilgart scored goals to lift the Lynx to their 5th victory in 2007.

The Lynx scored early in the first half when freshman forward Bailey Morgan crossed a ball in the Centre penalty area which junior forward Jessie Cassidy touched past the Colonel's goalkeeper and off the near post into the goal.

Centre evened the score when an awkward cross bounced off the hands of Rhodes goalkeeper Becca Clarin and into the Lynx net.  The score would remain tied going into halftime.

Both teams battled through a scoreless 2nd half, neither team finding success in the other's attacking half and the score would remain knotted at one goal each as regulation time expired.

As overtime began, the Lynx narrowly missed a game-winner when junior midfielder Diana Buss hit the cross bar.  Just seconds later freshman midfielder Alice Hilgart broke through the Centre defense and pushed the ball past the onrushing Colonel keeper to give the Lynx the golden goal victory.

Rhodes improves to 5-3 in 2007, 2-0 in the SCAC.  The Lynx will play SCAC rival Sewanee at home on Friday, September 28, 2007 at 4:00 pm.
