Women fall just short in SAA tournament

4/30/2013 11:23:00 AM

The lady Lynx went into the SAA tournament as the #2 seed.

They made quick work of Oglethorpe in the first round and faced Berry in the next round. They played Berry earlier in the season and squeaked out a 5-4 victory so the ladies knew that this was going to be a very tough match all the way down the line-up.

The match started off much like the first time with the Lynx taking 2 out of 3 doubles points. Amelia McIsaac and Elle Prewitt won an important 8-6 match at #2 doubles. Elyse Smith and Kristal Skrmetta won a decisivie 8-2 match at the third doubles match to give the Lynx some momentum going into singles play.

In the singles, Rhodes got wins from Emily Rizer at #3 and Elle Prewitt at #4. Those two played an exceptional match and both played well all tournament. Both girls won in very one sided matches, 6-0, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-1 respectively. Unfortunately, Rhodes couldn't find another point for the day.

Two of the matches ended up being third set losses for the Lynx. At #1, Maggie Donoghue, lost a tough 5-7, 6-3, 1-6 match. She has played so many tough matches throughout the year and may have a been a little tired by that third set. The other two matches were tough losses at #5 and #6 singles. Kristal found herself in a long 3 hour three set match and couldn't quite pull it out in the end. The Lynx finished the conference tournament in 3/4th place. The match for 3 and 4 was cancelled due to the rain but the team was confident they would've finished 3rd.

With no seniors on the team and a strong recruiting class the Lynx look to be even better than this year, which had the ladies in the top 10 in their region.
