The SCAC will be hosting its 2nd Annual Fall Media Days starting August 30th continuing through September 2nd.  Head coaches in field hockey, football, men's soccer, women's soccer and volleyball were interviewed about the upcoming season.  Interviews will be released by the SCAC on their respective date.

Mike Hettinger 68’ was All College Athletic Conference in 1966-67 and 1967-68 when he averaged over 20 points per game.


Seven outstanding alumni will be inducted into the Rhodes Athletic Hall of Fame during Homecoming Weekend, October 29-30, 2010.

After posting the best season in program history (13-4) and winning the team’s third SCAC Championship in six years the Lynx look to the experience of 16 returning players including 8 returning starters to push the team to the next level in 2010. The team returns the entire starting offense and midfield from the 2009 squad including seniors Lindsey Gurkovich and Charlie Wagner, team leaders on and off the field.  The team has its sights set on a strong run at defending their 2009 SCAC championship and at improving upon their 13-4 record last fall.  The team opens the season with a match against Randolph Macon (at Christopher Newport) at 11 am on Saturday September 4th.

8.09.2010 | Women's Volleyball

The Rhodes College Women's Volleyball Team was honored this year with its fifth straight AVCA Team Academic Award.  The award is given to those college and high school teams who achieve a cumulative team gpa of 3.3 and higher out of a 4.0 scale during the 2009-2010 academic year.  The team's cumulative gpa for the year was 3.35.

The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) announced its Student-Athlete Academic Honor Roll today for the 2010 spring term and a record 1,090 student-athletes made the list. Since its inception in the fall of 1997, just over 16,600 male and female student-athletes have been recognized for their contributions inthe classroom.  Rhodes ranked 3rd overall this spring for the total number of students with a 3.25 GPA and higher.

Mike DeGeorge has been named Rhodes Head Men’s Basketball Coach.  DeGeorge most recently served as the Head Basketball Coach at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa, where he transformed the Cornell program from 3 wins in 2005-06 to 21 wins in 2008-09.  The 2008-09 Cornell squad captured the school’s first Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) Championship and earned the school’s first NCAA tournament berth in fifteen years.  Coach DeGeorge was named the IIAC Coach of the Year in 2008-09.

For the second consecutive season, junior pitcher/designated player Sara Bowen has been named  First Team All-Atlantic Region.   Bowen's performance this season in the circle and at the plate helped lead the Lynx to a 27-15 record, breaking the regular season record for wins and earning the Lynx  their second straight berth in the SCAC Championships.

Stephanie Mingos
Women's Golf
The Student Athlete Advisory Committee has named junior Stephanie Mingos as the Student Athlete of the Month for April.
 
In the last month, Mingos put together an impressive campaign, winning three of her last four tournaments.  Her most recent victory came at the SCAC Championships, where Mingos captured Rhodes' first SCAC individual title since 2002, winning by a 6 stroke deficit over several of the nation's top players.
 
Her three day total of 14 over par is a new SCAC record, topping the previous mark of 17 over par by three-time SCAC champion Marisa Mauldin of Southwestern. Mingos' performance earned her first team All-SCAC and SCAC Player of the Year honors.
Chris Conkell
Baseball
The Student Athlete Advisory Committee has named junior Chris Conkell as the Student Athlete of the Month for April.
 
The Lynx starting catcher managed a .458 batting average (22/48), 12 RBIs and 10 runs scored during the month of April. Durning this time, Conkell harnessed a 13 game hitting streak, hitting safely in every game for the month.
 
He was also named to the SCAC All-Tournament team after his performance in the conference tournament. His batting average of .412, 5 RBIs and 5 runs scored in the tournament led him to be one of three players who were unanimous selections to the team.
