Rhodes Women Win Home Meet

The women's cross country team scored 65 points to capture first place in the Rhodes Invitational at Plough Park in Memphis. The Lynx won their home invitational for first time since 1997. NCAA Division I Birmingham Southern was 2nd with 115 points. Arkansas Tech, Central Arkansas, and Ouachita Baptist rounded out the top 5 of 16 scoring teams. Marie Brandewiede led Rhodes for the fourth time this season with a time of 19:15. A field of 115 runners finished the race. Southern Arkansas sophomore Gaby Mendoza rolled over the rough 5k course in 18:41 to win the meet.

Team captain Brandewiede was joined at the front by teammates Jennifer Emo and Cheryl Finster. The trio placed 4th, 5th, and 6th overall. Emo and Finster both ran season's best times by finishing in 19:39 and 19:41, respectively. May King and Caroline Owens were Rhodes final scorers, running 20:47 for 23rd and 20:58 for 27th. The Lynx 5th scorer finished ahead of all of the other teams' 4th runners. Lizzie Phillips (21:31 for 37th) and Abbey Walker (22:09 for 46th) rounded out Rhodes' top 7.
