Injured McCarthy Finishes 192nd at NCAA Championships

11/23/02

Senior Brian McCarthy finished his collegiate cross country career with a 192nd place finish at the NCAA Championships, hosted by St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota. The Lynx captain suffered an injured hamstring just three days prior to the competition, but he was able to run to a limited potential on Saturday. His time of 27:38 at St. Olaf was over 2 minutes slower than the personal best that he set just one week earlier at the Regional Championships, where he finished 2nd in 25:35 to qualify for the NCAA Championships as an individual. This was McCarthy's second appearance in the NCAA Cross Country Championship meet. The University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh won the team competition with 66 points, while Trinity College (Connecticut) senior Ryan Bak won the individual title in a course record time of 25:01.
