The Lynx finished 4th among 21 teams at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional Championships, hosted by Emory University in Atlanta. Sophomore Jennifer Emo finished 4th out of 144 athletes and qualified for the NCAA National Championships to be held next Saturday 11/20 at the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire. Trinity won the meet with 66 points, ahead of Emory (76), Mary Washington (141), and Rhodes (146). Agnes Scott senior Phyllis Tuggle, a 43-year old former world class cyclist, easily outdistanced the field for the second year in a row, winning by 67 seconds with a time of 21:49 over the muddy and challenging 6,000 meter Georgia Regional Hospital course.
Emo will represent the Lynx at the NCAA National Championships for the first time in her career, after grabbing the fourth of five individual qualifying spots at the Regional Meet. The sophomore used a strong middle mile to solidify her position near the front of the race and held off all challengers during the final 1200 meters to cross the line 4th in 23:32. Emo finished 21st in 24:39 on the same course at the Regional Meet in 2003. Freshman Nicole Goette earned NCAA All-Region honors by running 24:20 for 11th place. Courtney Cockerell ran 25:18 for 32nd place as Rhodes' third runner. Jaala Spencer and Kristin Campbell finished the Lynx scoring by placing 54th and 55th in 26:05 and 26:08, respectively. Nici Thomas (62nd) and May King (90th) rounded out the team's top 7.
