The Rhodes women's cross country team sent a partial squad to Nashville to compete in the Southeastern Classic meet, hosted by Belmont University. Freshman Haley McConaghy was the top Lynx finisher, as the team finished 6th out of 25 competing schools. The entire 188-runner field took a wrong turn, which lead them onto a section of the men's course and resulted in a longer race distance.
This mishap, however, did not stop Division I Belmont from winning the team competition with 89 points. NAIA powerhouse Malone College finished 2nd, ahead of Cumberland College, Morehead State University, Berry College, and Rhodes. The Lynx 209 points left them just 27 points shy of 3rd place as a team, and they finished ahead of SCAC foe the University of the South, which finished 15th overall with 346 points. Former Belmont All-American runner, competing unattached, Keely Weaver led from the start and cruised to the individual victory in 19:13 over the muddy, challenging, and long course at Percy Warner Park.
Marietta, Georgia's Haley McConaghy ran strong as Rhodes' top finisher in Nashville. She finished 34th overall with a time of 21:01. Senior Lauren Glas and freshman May King took 41st and 42nd, respectively, as they each finished in 21:23. Both runners actually improved their times from their September 21st races on the same course, despite running on the longer version of the course here at the Southeastern Classic. Senior Betsy Bogler continued her comeback from a late-summer injury, finishing in 21:33, good for 48th overall and 4th on the team. Abbey Walker was Rhodes' final scorer, as the San Antonio junior took 55th place in 21:54. Jessica Huber and Emily Pope rounded out the Lynx top 7 by finishing in 95th and 164th places.
