Rhodes Women Take Third in Sewanee Invitational

Led by senior Amy Paine's fifth place finish, the Rhodes women's cross country team took third out of eleven competing teams in the University of the South Invitational at the Sewanee golf course. Division I Mississippi State University had six of the meet's top eight finishers, as they earned the team championship with 20 points. Emory University finished second, just three points ahead of Rhodes, while Centre College and the University of the South rounded out the top five teams. Mississippi State's Meggan Hodge controlled the race from the start, winning in 18:15.

Paine covered the rolling five-kilometer course in 19:21, while two of her teammates joined her in the meet's top ten. Senior Elizabeth Wester and junior Marie Brandewiede finished 9th and 10th in 19:41 and 19:44, respectively. The top three Lynx runners bettered the team's best finishing time at this meet one year ago. Freshman Haley McConaghy had a strong race in her first collegiate 5k, taking 19th place in 20:37. Fellow first-year May King closed out the Lynx scoring, as she was 35th in 21:39. Abbey Walker and Emily Pope rounded out Rhodes' top seven, as they placed 41st and 78th.
