The Rhodes College softball team hosted the Hendrix College Warriors for a three-game SAA series over the weekend where they completed the sweep and improved to 8-4 in conference play.
GAME 1
The game started slow until the 3
rd inning when Hendrix scored the first run of the day via home run. However, Rhodes responded by scoring three runs from a
Jasmyn Stanley double, bringing in
Talia Travis,
Savannah Russell, and
Athena Gonzales. Ending the inning, Rhodes led 3-1.Hendrix came back in the top half of the 4
th inning, with yet another homer to left field earning two more runs, leveling the score to 3-3. Getting back on top,
Athena Gonzales doubled to left center, driving in Stanley. In the 6
th inning Hendrix was not able to score anymore runs, allowing Rhodes the opportunity to rack up more runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Harper Allee-Press capitalized on the left fielder's error from a stolen base and was able to run into home, bringing the score to 5-3. The final runs of the game were scored from Russell who had a double RBI that drove in Travis and
Cam Ferguson. The lynx ended early and confident, with a final score of 7-3. Pitcher
Gina Dudley had a stellar performance, with 7 innings pitched and 11 strikeouts; her highest strikeout count of the season. Rhodes performed well offensively, with some standout performances from Russell with 3 RBIs and 1 hit, as well as Travis, Stanley, and Allee-Press, who each had 2 hits.
GAME 2
Continuing from the previous victory of the day, the Lynx came out on top with an even stronger victory of 10-3. The Lynx wasted no time setting the tone, scoring four runs in the first inning to erase Hendrix's early homer.
Athena Gonzales singled to drive in the first run, followed by
Kate Ledlie's RBI double. A sacrifice fly by
Emma Caplinger and a fielding error allowed another run to cross the plate, giving Rhodes a 4-1 lead. In the second inning, Rhodes extended their lead to 5-1 when
Quinn Thompson grounded out, bringing home a run. The momentum continued into the third, with Caplinger driving in yet another run with a sharp single to right center. The fifth inning saw Rhodes pile on two more runs, courtesy of a Caplinger RBI double and
Jasmyn Stanley's clutch hit up the middle. Hendrix fought back in the sixth, scoring twice to bring the game within four runs at 7-3. However, Rhodes responded immediately, with
Harper Allee-Press and Caplinger each smacking doubles to push the lead to 9-3. Rhodes had secured a dominant 10-3 win, powered by 14 hits, five doubles, and an impeccable pitching performance from
Taylor Petty, who struck out 14 in her complete-game masterpiece. From start to finish, Rhodes controlled every scoring opportunity, proving their strength in every inning they touched home plate. Ending the day with two victories, the team and their loyal fans were left eager for the next day for a final match against the Warriors.
GAME 3
On a special Senior Day in Memphis, The Lynx celebrated its three veterans and achieved a commanding 5-1 victory over the Warriors to complete the series sweep.
The Lynx wasted no time, getting on the board in the first inning when
Savannah Russell's speed set the tone—crossing home plate on
Athena Gonzales' ground out to first.
After a quiet second inning, Rhodes struck again in the third.
Harper Allee-Press delivered under pressure, knocking a single to third base that turned into a two-run play following an error.
Kate Ledlie and Gonzales both touched home, pushing Rhodes to a 3-0 lead. Hendrix attempted to catch up in the fourth with a solo homer that momentarily closed the gap to 3-1. But Rhodes didn't let up—Russell returned with a sacrifice fly to score senior
Hannah Schweiger, followed immediately by fellow senior
Cam Ferguson's RBI single that brought
Jasmyn Stanley home, restoring Rhodes' comfortable four-run lead. While the offense shined, Rhodes' pitching was just as dominant.
Gina Dudley shut down Hendrix with a complete-game gem, striking out nine batters and allowing only four hits across seven innings. The Lynx defense remained rock solid, making sure Hendrix never found its rhythm. The Lynx are on a five game winning streak, propelling them forward to face the rest of their opponents with confidence.
