Rhodes Softball Takes Conference Series on the Road

The Lynx hit the road this past weekend to take on the Hendrix College Warriors in a three-game conference series, which included a doubleheader on Saturday and the final game on Sunday.

Game 1 did not quite go the Lynx way as both teams battled, putting a total of 13 runs on the board. Unfortunately, the Warrior offense was just too much to handle, and the Lynx offense could not keep up with their scoring. Rhodes would take the loss in game 1 by a score of 7-6, but a few players recorded multiple hits in the game, including Jasmyn Stanley, Harper Allee-Press, Quinn Thompson, and Savannah Russell.

The Lynx looked to bounce back in game 2, and they did just that as their offense came to life behind a complete game effort from their starting pitcher, Emily Pertuit. Pertuit pitched all 7.0 innings, striking out 2 and only allowing a single run. This allowed the offense behind her to get to work, starting with a sacrifice fly from Madison Bromley that plated Athena Gonzales. From there, it was all Lynx as they continued adding to their run total, thanks to RBI hits from Madison Bromley, Madison Granberry, Kate Ledlie, and Athena Gonzales. When the dust settled, the Lynx exited game 2 with a 7-1 victory to tie up the series.

Sunday held the deciding game, and both teams were eager to battle it out. The Rhodes offense could not be stopped as they plated 14 runs in the game. Kate Ledlie and Jasmyn Stanley led the way with 2 hits and 3 RBIs a piece, paving the way for the rest of the team to provide the remaining 8 runs. Gina Dudley got the start in the circle for the Lynx, and she delivered a 5.0-inning outing in which she struck out 3 and only allowed 1 earned run. She would then hand the ball over to Taylor Petty who turned in 2.0 innings of 1 run ball, recording the final out and closing the door on the Warriors in the bottom of the 7th. This gave Rhodes the game 3 victory by a score of 14-4, as well as an overall series win.

The Lynx will play a single-game contest this Tuesday (April 9th) at 2 p.m. at the UT Martin campus. They will then stay on the road this weekend as they travel to Birmingham-Southern College to face the Panthers in another conference series.
