Rhodes Athletics Weekend Preview (January. 19-22)

Last weekend, the Men's Lacrosse team showed their resilience, finishing their season with a hard-fought game in the first round of the SAA tournament. The Baseball team, despite a tough series against Oglethorpe, displayed their determination with a 1-2 loss. Softball also fought valiantly in their series against BSC, ending with a 0-3 loss. Men's and Women's Tennis split last weekend, setting the stage for an exciting SAA tournament. Women's Lacrosse, with their victory over Sewanee, advanced to the SAA championship, showcasing their strength and skill.

Women's Golf

This weekend, the Women's golf team is gearing up for a thrilling competition at the Southern Athletic Conference Championship in Dickson, TN. This prestigious tournament, featuring all SAA members, will be held at the renowned Greystone Golf Club. The first round, starting on Thursday, will set the stage for the final Championship round on Sunday.

As we head into the championship, the Lynx, ranked #22 in Division 3, are led by our top golfer, Ava Bankston. Ava, who ranks #45 in the nation, has been a consistent performer and a 2x SAA athlete of the Week, making us all proud with her stellar performances throughout the season.

Scouting report: Centre College is ranked #17 in the nation, while Sewanee is ranked #24, proving that this tournament has some of the nation's best DIII Women's Golfers.

Men's Tennis

The Men's Tennis team is gearing up for an intense competition in the SAA conference championship. With a season record of 10-6 and an overall record of 4-2, the team is ready to face their next challenge. Seeded third in the tournament, they will be up against Oglethorpe on Friday at 9 am for the first round.

The Lynx's top athletes include the No.1 doubles team, Nicholas Miloi and Owen Kohler, who received two SAA Athlete of the Week awards. Singles No. 1 Daniel Trudell will also be a standout for the Lynx.

Scouting report: The Lynx will first face the Petrels, who they defeated 6-3 in the regular season. If they win that match, they will face BSC, and the winner will head to the championship.

Track and Field

The Women's and Men's Track and Field teams are set to compete at Hendrix College this weekend in the 2024 SAA Outdoor Championship. The meeting will last two days in Conway, Arkansas. Friday's competition will include some field events as well as preliminary races. The rest of the field events, races, and finals will compete on Saturday. The competition begins at 8:30 am.

At the last home meet, the Men's 4x100 broke the school record in race. The men's and women's sprint crews are also seeded for high finish in the relays, hurdles, and short sprints. Justin Davis will lead the field events in the horizontal jumps.

Scouting report: The Lynx have some of the most elite SAA athletes, yet Centre and Berry have lots of depth, leading to a tough battle for the SAA Championship title.

The tennis team will travel to Murfreesboro, TN this weekend to compete in the SAA tournament at Old Fort Park. This season, the team is 10-6 and 4-2 in conference matches. The tournament's first round will be played against BSC at 1 pm on Friday.

The Lynx team was ranked #3 in the tournament. Last weekend, Emma McHale/Gracie Rask had a massive win against a previously undefeated Sewanee and Centre team.

Scouting report: The Lynx will first face the Panthers, whom they defeated 7-2 in the regular season. If they win that match, they will face Berry to decide who advances to the championship round.

Softball

The team finished the regular season 17-22-1 with a conference record of 9-9 and will head to Birmingham this weekend to compete in the first round of the SAA championship tournament. The tournament is styled as double elimination, and the winner of the Birmingham pod will advance to the championship series to face the winner of the Mount Berry pod. The team is ranked 3rd and will first face #6 Millsaps on Friday at 2:30 pm.

Jasmine Stanley is #3 in the SAA with a batting average of .470. Ace Gina Dudley has lowered her ERA to 2.78. The Lynx, as a team, has batted .323 this season.

Scouting report: The Lynx defeated Millsaps earlier this season, winning the series 2-1. If they win, they will face the BSC and Hendrix winners at noon.. on Saturday.

Baseball

The baseball team is 22-16 this season with an SAA record of 10-11 as they head into the first round of the SAA tournament. The tournament is played in best 2 out of 3 series style, with the winner of the series advancing to the next round. The BSC Panthers will host the Lynx with the first game at 6 pm Friday to begin the series.

Last Week's AOW was Corbin Kinder, who hit .667 over four games for the Lynx. The Lynx offensive has been a great weapon this season, with a team average of .314.

Scouting report: The Lynx were swept earlier this season by BSC 0-3 in the series.

Women's Lacrosse

The Lynx went undefeated in conference games this season and have won their last 44 consecutive SAA matchups. They head into the championship round of the SAA tournament hosted in Memphis to face off against Centre College. Coming off a hot 8-game winning streak, the Lynx hope to edge that into a 9-game winning streak to win their 9th SAA title in a row.

The Lynx have won the last eight SAA tournaments and hope to continue their streak. The Rhodes team won both the offensive and defensive player of the year awards, led by great performances all season by Avery Burke, who tallied 40 goals, and Bari Pinkett, who led the league in caused turnovers.

Scouting report: The Lynx defeated Centre 19-7 in the regular season matchup. Colonel Coach Monica Brumbelow was voted the coach of the year.
