The Lynx softball team picked up victory after victory as they played seven games against Blackburn College and Millsaps College over Spring Break. The break featured a long four-game series against the Blackburn Beavers, followed by a three-game conference series against the Millsaps Majors.
The Lynx got off to a hot start in game one against Blackburn as they put up eight runs, highlighted by a 3-hit game from
Harper Allee-Press.
Talia Travis and
Kate Ledlie also picked up a pair of hits apiece, while
Kate Ledlie drove in 2 RBIs.
Madison Granberry also played a significant role with 2 RBIs to help propel the Lynx to a game-one victory by a final score of 8-3.
Gina Dudley was responsible for holding the Beavers at bay, and she did just that as she hurled 6.0 innings of 2-run ball in which she struck out 4.
Game 2 against Blackburn was a much closer affair as the Beavers fought to place six runs on the board. Fortunately, the Lynx would have another intense day at the plate as RBIs from
Peyton Rohrig,
Madison Bromley,
Madison Granberry,
Talia Travis, and
Harper Allee-Press contributed to a 7-run effort to beat the Beavers in game 2. The game was all tied up heading into the bottom of the 7th until a clutch RBI double by
Kate Ledlie would give the Lynx a 7-6 victory in walk-off fashion.
Rhodes continued their momentum into game 3, in which they turned in an offensive explosion, scoring 16 runs.
Talia Travis led the way at the dish, recording three hits in 4 at-bats and driving in 5 RBIs.
Harper Allee-Press also picked up three hits and a pair of RBIs on the day, leading the Lynx to their third consecutive win by a score of 16-5.
The Lynx brought their brooms to the field in game four as they led the series 3-0. This low-scoring game did not see any runs scored until the bottom of the 4th when
Talia Travis stole home and gave Rhodes the lead. Travis would then come to the plate at the bottom of the 5th and blast a 2 RBI double, scoring
Quinn Thompson and
Madison Granberry, giving the lead back to the Lynx.
Emma Caplinger would follow the Travis double with a double of her own, extending the Lynx lead to 4-2. A complete game from starter
Gina Dudley would keep the Beavers's offense on their heels all game as Dudley struck out three, only allowing two runs and completing the four-game sweep. The Lynx outscored the Beavers in the series by a total score of 35-16.
The Lynx were riding high as they entered a three-game conference series against the Millsaps Majors. Game 1 saw the Majors hold a 3-0 lead heading into the bottom of the 6th when the first Rhodes run came on an error from the Majors, allowing
Kate Ledlie to score. The Lynx would capitalize on the Majors's miscue as a sac fly from
Savannah Russell plated
Madison Wehrman, and
Harper Allee-Press would follow up by reaching on a fielder's choice and driving in
Athena Gonzales to tie the game at 3. The game would go to extra innings, but not for long, as
Harper Allee-Press got another chance in the bottom of the 8th, and she made the most of it by ripping an RBI double to plate
Jasmyn Stanley and give the Lynx another walk-off win in the game one by a score of 4-3. Rhodes would then fall just short of the Majors in game two and take their only loss of the break by a score of 3-2.
With the series tied 1-1 heading into game 3, the Lynx handed the ball over to their ace starting pitcher,
Gina Dudley. Dudley would turn in her best outing of the season as she pitched a complete game shutout, striking out four and only allowing three hits. The Lynx would also score three runs in the game scored by
Quinn Thompson,
Kate Ledlie, and
Jasmyn Stanley. That would be enough to give the Lynx a game three win by a score of 3-0, as well as a series victory.
Rhodes now holds a conference record of 5-1 as they continue conference play next weekend, traveling to Berry College to square off in a 3-game set against the Vikings.
