Rhodes Track and Field Competes in Birmingham

Yesterday, the Lynx Men's and Women's Track and Field Teams competed in the Samford Bulldog Open Indoor Meet held at the Birmingham CrossPlex. The meet marked the end of the indoor season for most competitors and saw some strong performances that qualified some athletes for the NCAA Indoor Championships.

The women's team had three national indoor qualifiers. Senior Ace Cole qualified in the pole vault with a jump of 3.73 meters. Senior high jumper, Rachel Sullivan, also qualified for the national championships with her jump of 1.68 meters. Freshman, Olivia Freeman qualified in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.74. The rest of the women's team had strong performances with several personal records being set.

The men's team also had strong performances across all event groups. Senior sprints runner, Luke Gerzon, tied his personal best time of 6.98 in the 60-meter dash. Austin Rhea ran a personal best in the 800-meter with a time of 1:59. Brendan Owen, a sophomore, jumped a personal best of 3.92 meters in the pole vault. Jared Briant ran an 8:34 in the 3000-meter run and set a new school record in the event! The team had strong performances throughout the day, setting them up for a great outdoor season.

The Lynx concluded the indoor season with solid finishes and several national qualifications. Their next competition is the Mississippi College Meet on March 4th, which will mark the start of the outdoor season. The nationally qualifying athletes will return to Birmingham on March 10th and 11th to compete in the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships.
