Men's Golf
The Rhodes Men's Golf Team finished their Fall schedule with a trip to the Wabash Invitational at Broadmoor CC in Indianapolis, IN. The team battled chilly conditions and a challenging golf course to finish 2
nd out of 15 teams. After 36 holes, the Lynx were in 2
nd place with scores of 303 and 299. The final round started slowly, with the team dropping seven spots into 9
th place after 9 holes. From that point on, the team played the last 9 holes at 8-under par to finish 2nd. The team was led by Senior
Foster Wood, with rounds of 76-71-76, and Junior
Billy Gussler, with rounds of 76-76-72. Wood finished 7
th and Gussler finished tied for 8th. Freshman
John Bates continued the strong start to his opening season, shooting rounds of 75-75-76 to finish tied for 14
th in the 90-player field. Senior
Avery Stansell posted rounds of 79-77-75 and Junior
Grant Burks fired rounds of 76-79-78. Junior
Evan DeVine also participated as an Individual and shot rounds of 85-77-85.
"After such a poor start in round 3, I was pleased with the resolve that our team showed to finish the round strong and move into second place. Winning at Tunica and finishing second at Wabash is a nice way to finish our Fall season and gives a springboard into a challenging Spring season." - Head Coach Tom Campbell
Volleyball
Lynx Volleyball was at home this weekend, taking on Berry on Friday and Oglethorpe on
Saturday. The Lynx went 0-2 on the weekend, falling to 5-11 on the season.
Yzzi Dsamou had 35
kills on the weekend. This weekend, the Lynx are home again, taking on Millsaps on Saturday
and Birmingham Southern on Sunday.
Field Hockey
Field Hockey had a split record in Fredericksburg this weekend, beating Mary Washington 3-2
but losing to Christopher Newport 0-6. After going down 2-0 against Mary Washington, the
Lynx scored 3 goals to get back on top and secure the win.
Sophie Croci,
Sheela Vasan, and
Grace Utz all scored in the Lynx victory. The Lynx are now 9-3 on the season. This weekend, the
Lynx return home to take on Centre on Sunday at 11:00 AM.
Women's Soccer
Rhodes women's Soccer had two games on the road this weekend, losing both. The Lynx fell to
Sewanee 1-2 on Friday, and lost to Centre on Sunday by the same score.
Grace Culver scored
against Sewanee and
Mary Gale Godwin scored against Centre. The Lynx are now 7-4-1 on the
season and will return home this weekend to play Oglethorpe on Friday and Berry on Sunday.
Football
This Saturday, Rhodes Football traveled to Jackson to take on the Majors of Millsaps. The Lynx
were dominant and secured the victory by a score of 37-7. Only five minutes into the game,
Robert Daniel scored on a 31 yard touchdown run with the extra point from
Myles Kruger. A
short 3 minutes later, Robert Daniel scored again on a 6 yard run. Millsaps answered with a 33
yard touchdown pass to end the 1st quarter, but the Lynx offense answered with another
touchdown run from Robert Daniel. Before halftime, the Lynx scored again on a 16 yard pass
from
Evan Reeder to
Aaron Cooper. After halftime, Tezjioh Knox scored on a pass from Evan
Reeder and
Myles Kruger knocked in a 29 yard field goal. With this win, the Lynx improved to
4-2 on the season and 2-2 in conference. Rhodes football is back at home this weekend, to take
on Sewanee in a long-awaited addition to the legacy of the Orgill Cup.
Men's Soccer
Men's Soccer was also on the road this weekend, taking on Sewanee and Centre. Rhodes tied
both games 0-0. Goalkeeper
Nate Slota totalled four saves against Sewanee and two against
Centre. The Lynx now stand at 7-1-3 on the season and 2-0-2 in conference play. The Lynx
return home this weekend, and play Oglethorpe on Friday and Berry on Sunday.
Swimming and Diving
Both the Men's and Women's swimming and diving teams had impressive weekends on the road.
Both teams had 4 dual meets, taking on Hendrix, Ozarks, and Centenary twice. Both teams went
5-0, securing impressive victories of margin in each meet. The men defeated Ozarks 171 to 30,
Hendrix 209 to 79, and Centenary 176 to 32 and 224 to 36. The women defeated Ozarks 174 to
60, Hendrix 229 to 48, and Centenary 179 to 38 and 228 to 42.
