Rhodes Swimming and Diving faced off against the University of Tennessee Southern this past weekend at Alburty Pool. The Lynx also celebrated their senior athletes at the home meet. The Men's seniors include John Beuerlein, Arthur Bishop, Will Guzman, Brayden Lauletta, and Adam Young. The Women's seniors include Taylor Albrecht, Kate Christie, Lauren Cordes, Isabella Lewin, Ellie Parker, Ella Peterson, and Emily Robinson.
The meet was a record-setting day, with 9 Alberty Pool records broken by seven athletes. First for the women, Eliza Hulverson set the pool record in the 50M freestyle with a time of 27.95 and the 100M butterfly at 1:07.27. Gracie Shapard swam a time of 31.71 in the 50M backstroke. Paxton Smythe set the record in the 50M butterfly at 30.91 seconds. With 9:38.78 in the 800M free, Freshman Taylor Mcnerney set another pool record for the Lynx. On the men's side, Daniel Snyder set the record in the 400M freestyle at 4:14.84 and the 200M free at 1:56.11. Sophomore Jack Whitten swam a time of 1:06.17 in the 100M breaststroke. Jose Garcia broke the last pool record of the day, swimming 59.22 in the 100M butterfly.
The men's and women's teams took on the UT Southern Firehawks in dominating fashion. The day held many individual personal records and improvements in race times for many of the athletes. The Lynx had the fasted timed swimmer in 32 of the 34 events on Saturday, and many of the races were led by multiple Lynx athletes. The final score of the meet for the women's side was 233-31 and 215-50 for the men.
The Lynx's impressive performances of the day advanced the Lynx to a 6-0 record for the season. The next competition for the men's and women's swimming and diving teams will be a conference dual meet against the Millsaps College Majors on November 4th in Jackson, Mississippi.
