Danville, Ky. - After going 1-1 Friday and with rain drowning out play on Saturday, Rhodes softball faced No. 10 ranked and No. 2 seeded Berry College in Sunday's elimination game.
First year
Katelyn Siekerka led the game off with a solo homer to left field, her fourth home run of the tournament. The Lynx then went ahead 2-0 over the Vikings after
Hannah Grace Roden doubled and eventually scored an unearned run in the second inning.
Berry did most of their damage in the third inning as the Lynx committed back-to-back defensive errors which would have ended the inning without any runs scored. The Vikings capitalized on their opportunity and hit four doubles which ultimately helped them score six runs. They added their final run in the fifth to take a 7-2 lead.
The Lynx led off the seventh with a Roden single to right field before senior
Samantha Feinstein tallied an RBI in her final at-bat to score fellow senior
Peyton Clark with two outs for the final run of the game.
Siekerka also doubled in the game as her and Roden each went 2-for-3 at the plate.
Madison Keller and
Lauren King combined to strike out six Vikings in the game including four by King in 4.2 innings of relief.
At the end of the tournament,
Katelyn Siekerka was named to the 2021 SAA All-Tournament Team.
Rhodes ends their season with a 17-18 record as the Lynx fought their way against two top-10 ranked opponents in the 2021 SAA Tournament.
