Jackson, Miss. - Rhodes College softball suffered a 7-1 loss in the conference finale on Sunday before roaring back to a 9-3 victory over the Millsaps College Majors in the non-conference matchup.
Game 1
A triple, double, and home run fueled a 3-0 start for the Majors on Sunday. A
Katelyn Siekerka double to start the second resulted in Rhodes scoring their lone run of the game after Marissa Moore singled and
Madison Granberry earned the RBI groundout. Four Millsaps singles coupled with a sac fly and stolen base allowed the Majors to take a 6-1 lead. Millsaps scored their final run in the fifth after four straight singles. The Lynx evaded an eighth Millsaps run on a fielder's choice to home.
Madison Stringfield was the lone Lynx to earn multiple hits in the game as she went 2-for-3. Zero Lynx struck out in the game while
Andie Priest went the complete game and struck out six Majors.
Game 2
Millsaps stranded three in the bottom of the first inning, but it was Rhodes who scored first, plating a lone run in the top of the second inning.
Nikki Greuel walked, stole second, and reached third before stealing home with two outs. Millsaps tied the game on a double in the third inning but the Lynx scored four in the top of the fourth to lead 5-1. Three doubles, a sac fly, hit by pitch, and a Millsaps error accounted for the runs. Greuel added another RBI on a single in the fifth before the Majors took advantage of two walks and scored on a two-RBI double. Rhodes rounded out scoring in the sixth with three runs after two hits and two Millsaps errors.
Moore and Greuel went 2-for-3 with two runs scored while Greuel totaled three RBI.
Madison Keller struck out four in 4.1 innings to get the win. King allowed zero hits in 2.2 innings inside the circle after starting the game at third base.
The Lynx are on the road for the next two weeks. This weekend they travel to Berry College for another four-game series, the first three of which count towards conference standings.
