Four Lynx Tabbed With SAA Weekly Honors

Rhodes College athletics had four Lynx honored with SAA Players/Pitchers of the Week, as announced by the Southern Athletic Association on Monday, March 1, 2021.

Baseball swept the SAA Player/Pitcher of the Week honors for the second week in a row while women's lacrosse also garnered offensive player of the week honors for the second straight week. In softball, the Lynx have earned their first honor  this season at player of the week.

Nick Ferazzi - Ferazzi garnered SAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week honors. The sophomore from Houston, Texas was dominant in his start this weekend going 6.2 innings allowing zero earned runs en route to his first win of the season. Ferazzi scattered four hits, walked two and recorded five strikeouts in a 13-1 Lynx victory over Hendrix.

Chris Penna - Penna garnered SAA Baseball Player of the Week honors. A junior catcher/designated hitter from Hermosa Beach, Calif. continued his hot hitting this weekend. Penna had at least two hits in all three games going 8-for-11 on the weekend with a .727 batting average. In game one against Hendrix, Penna went 2-for-4 with two walks scoring two runs and driving in one. Game two, Penna went 3-for-4 with a walk, double, home run, three runs scored and four RBI. In game three, Penna went 3-for-3, with a walk, home run, two runs scored and an RBI.

On the weekend, Penna had 7 runs scored, 6 RBI and 2 home runs. His slugging percentage for the weekend was 1.367 with an on-base percentage of .800.
 
Penna leads the SAA this season in batting average, slugging percentage and on-base percentage. He is ranked in the top-10 across NCAA Division III this season across multiple categories including: Walks (10th), Hits (7th), Home Runs (3rd), Runs Scored (4th), and RBI (3rd). He is also ranked 11th in slugging percentage.


Payton Bennett - Bennett garnered SAA Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week honors. She led Lynx scoring as Rhodes defeated DePauw twice this past weekend (16-7 and 19-9). Bennett averaged 6.5 points per game and 2.5 ground balls per game.
 
In the home opener she recorded six goals, four ground balls and two caused turnovers. On Sunday she added five goals and two assists for seven points. She scored the game-winning goal and added a ground ball on the day.
 
On the weekend, Bennett totaled a .789 shots on goal percentage.


Marisa Moore - Moore earned SAA Softball Player of the Week honors. She went 7-for-14 at the plate for a .500 AVG, recorded a .714 slugging percentage and a .571 on-base percentage and walked twice this weekend. Moore recorded 6 RBI, scored three runs, and hit three doubles while earning a hit in each game and a multi-base hit in three of the four games.

In Saturday's game 2, Moore went 1-for-1, walked twice and doubled in a run while also scoring once. She also crossed home in the first game of the weekend going 1-for-4.

In Sunday's games she went 3-for-5 with 2 RBI in game one and then in game two she went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI and a run scored, having a part in each of the four Rhodes' runs that game.
