Rhodes Announces Athletic Logo Rebranding

PRIMARY LOGO

COMBINING TRADITION AND HOMETOWN PRIDE

The lynx became the official mascot of Rhodes College in 1924, and symbolizes great agility, unmatched eyesight and hearing, and incredible strength and stealth. The lynx, by nature, is a force to be reckoned with and is a fitting representation of Rhodes’ profound and enduring excellence.

The full-bodied Lynx stands on top of the “M” bridge which connects Memphis, Tennessee, and West Memphis, Arkansas. It is best known for its distinct double-arch shape. In this logo, it serves not only as a symbol of Memphis, but also the connection between Rhodes, the communities it serves, and the global community it seeks to engage.

SECONDARY LOGOS

This is the blackletter "R" from the College logo.

Maintaining its strength and sophistication, this logo is paired down to just the lynx head and wordmark.

The College “R” from the common logo is paired with a simplified digital version of the College shield.

I truly appreciate the investment Dr. Hass has made in athletics to make this new logo and brand identity guide a reality for our student-athletes and coaches. Along with the commitment to Athletics in our strategic plan, this is another pivotal moment for a department that has won three consecutive Commissioner Cups.

WORDMARK

Mudhead is now the official font for the Lynx. The rigid, bold lettering is indicative of established strength and prowess, while the unique serifs at the top of the letters harken back to the traditional sophistication of the academic logo.

AMPED WORDMARK

There is also a “bolded” version of RHODES for emphasization.

COLOR AND IDENTIFYING VARIATIONS

One and two-color variations are also available for horizontal and vertical options of the lynx bridge, lynx head, and shield logos. College, Lynx, Athletics and sport-specific identification is interchangeable underneath RHODES in all wordmarks. Specific sport names are also allowed under the R Shield variations.
