Kissimmee, Fla. - Rhodes College softball has started spring break 1-1 after Tuesday's games against John Carroll and Simmons College. Rhodes started spring break off with a 4-2 loss against John Carroll University. JCU held the Lynx scoreless until the seventh inning when they scored two runs.
Simmons
Rhodes offense was hot at the plate as they recorded 19 hits and took advantage of 13 Simmons errors to win 29-5 in five innings. The Lynx got off to a 15-0 start before Simmons crossed four runs in the third inning. Rhodes got those back and more as they tallied another five in the fourth and nine in the fifth to end the game early.
The big story on the day was shortstop
Jill Healy who hit for the cycle, added a walk, five RBI, scored four runs and went four-of-five on the day. It's believed to be the first cycle recorded in the Rhodes softball program. Healy, a junior, singled in the second, tripled in the third, hit a two-run home run in the fourth and walked and doubled in the fifth.
Catcher
Kendall Henry went four-of-six on the day with three runs scored, six RBI and two home runs.
Kirsten Samuels and
Peyton Clark both crossed the plate four times.
Olivia Jackson stole two bases.
Bri Maniscalco got the start and struck out four over four innings of work in the circle.
Jamie Jang pitched the fifth and struck out one without allowing a hit.
Rhodes returns to action Wednesday for two games, beginning with a 1:30 p.m. ET game against Penn.St.-Berks and a 3:45 p.m. ET game against Baldwin Wallace.
