Memphis - Rhodes College softball finished the weekend with a 7-4 loss to No. 5-Berry College. Prior to the game, the Lynx recognized their three seniors for their support with the program:
Allison Long,
Caroline Reilly and
Kirsten Samuels.
In the first inning, with a runner on second, Berry sent their leadoff runner home on a single to right center. Samuels threw the ball to
Jill Healy near second for the cutoff and Healy fired home, but the close play at the plate went to the Vikings who took a 1-0 advantage. Trailing 3-0, Rhodes crossed two runs in the bottom of the third inning when freshman
Marisa Moore tallied her first career home run down the left field line.
Berry took a 5-2 lead after a double in the fourth and solo home run in the fifth. Samuels, who continued her offensive power, hit a two-run home run to almost the exact same spot as yesterday's walk-off. This time the blast came from her first pitch of the at-bat. She went two-of-three in the game and scored twice.
Down by only one run, the Vikings insured the win with one run in each of the final two innings of the game on a sacrifice fly and another Bri Masterson solo home run.
Long pitched the first inning and suffered the loss while Reilly pitched the remainder of the game.
For Berry, Kassie Howard pitched the entire game and earned 11 strikeouts.
Rhodes and Hendrix are trying to play each other Wednesday, April 4th in Conway, Ark. This is the second time the games have been rescheduled due to weather issues. Following the Warriors, the Lynx will travel to Centre for a three-game series over the weekend.
