BRANDON, Miss. - The Rhodes softball team finished their 2015 campaign on Saturday with three games in the Southern Athletic Assocation tournament.
The SAA tournament play opened today with the No. 3 seed Lynx battling with the No. 6 seed Hendrix. In an exciting contest, the Warriors jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Rhodes exploded for seven runs over the final two innings. For Rhodes,
Forrest Skelton went the distance in the circle; offensively, it was a total team effort as the Lynx used everything in their arsenal to get runs across. Doubles, bunts for base hits, steals, it was all needed to win their opening round match up.
In game two, Rhodes locked horns with No. 25 Birmingham Southern.
Forrest Skelton began the game on the rubber and turned in three innings of work, giving up three runs before turning over the reigns to
Caroline Reilly. Reilly worked the final four innings over which the Panthers plated five. Offensively, the Lynx were only able to push one run across, in the fifth, to leave the final score, 8-1 in favor of BSC.
In game three, the Lynx went on the offensive early, pushing the tempo and dominating the first half of the contest against Centre College. Rhodes jumped out to a 2-0 and it looked as though they would remain in control of the game. However, in the top of the fifth, Centre worked a tight strike zone to their favor and put up seven runs and never looked back. When the dust settled, Centre emerged as an 8-3 winner, ended the Lynx's season and their recent 15-6 run over they final 21 games.
Rhodes graduates only two seniors, pitcher
Forrest Skelton and outfielder
Makenzie Martin off this season's team.
