The Lynx Softball Team completed their home opener weekend with a 1-2-1 record against very good competition. After losing to the Maryville College Scots in their opening game, Rhodes rebounded with a 3-1 win against Berry before falling to the Vikings, 8-1 in the second half of a double header. In the night cap, the Lynx took on perrennial HCAC power, Transylvania, but after 5 innings, with the score knotted at 4, the game was called due to darkness resulting in a tie for both teams.
First year head coach
Luke Wagner commented, "This weekend was a learning experience. It is easy to get frustrated at a slow start, but I saw a lot of positives this weekend. The girls are still adapting to a slightly different style of softball and that's a process, but we'll get there." Wagner continued, "I also understand that, while there is a need to be "patient for the process" we need to execute our game plans at a much higher level. Defensive miscues continue to plague us during competition and we are leaving far too many runners stranded in scoring position."
Coach Wagner closed saying, "The potential is there, absolutely. I see glimpses of what this team can be everyday. The challenge for us is to perform on a more consistent basis. I expect the girls will be very competitive this week in practice as we prepare for another big weekend."
Next weekend Rhodes College plays host to Millikin and Fontbonne.
