Memphis, TN - Rhodes Field Hockey completed a perfect 10-0 record in conference play this afternoon with a 1-0 thriller against Centre College in the SAA Finals. The lone goal was scored by sophomore midfielder
Kate Taylor, who tipped the game-winner over the Centre keeper on a shot by
Regan McLaughlin.
From the first whistle it was evident that it was going to be competitive 70 minutes of play against the Colonels. Centre earned five penalty corners before the Lynx were able to earn anything down on their offensive end. The Rhodes defensive unit was able to deny several close calls, including a goal line save by forward
Katie Faucher. Towards the end of the first stanza the Lynx were finally able to find the intensity they needed to generate some play on offense, earning three penalty corners right before the half. Centre held a 13-6 advantage in shots in the first 35 minutes and a 5-3 edge in penalty corners.
After the break, Rhodes continued to build from the momentum at the end of the first half. The Lynx continued to push on offense until
Kate Taylor found the back of the net at the 48 minute mark. Taylor tipped the ball over the Centre goalie off of a shot from
Regan McLaughlin. With twenty-two minutes left on the clock, Rhodes had to hold tough on defense to preserve the win. Strong efforts in the back-field gave the Lynx the edge they needed to hang on and claim the 1-0 victory. Rhodes goalie
Jordan Robinson is credited with the shut-out, making 17 saves throughout the game. At the end of the game, Centre maintained a slight 19-18 edge in shots with Rhodes evening the stats to 9-9 in penalty corners.
With the victory the Lynx secured their 4th consecutive conference title. The team also managed to produce a perfect 10-0 conference record twice in the past 3 seasons. Seniors

Jordan Robinson finished their playing career with a cumulative record of 55-17.
